The vision of WAD is a just, inclusive and equitable society, which is accommodating diversity in all its aspects, regardless the differences in sex, social status, ethnic origin, health status, age, sexual orientation, marital status, religion.


The mission of WAD is to establish a strategic alliance of organizations and individuals, working for equal opportunities of women and men in all spheres of live.

WAD foundation is a leading information, consultative and training center, an active participant in the international consultative process, and an advocate for gender equality and partnership of the sexes, in compliance with international standards in this field.

With regard to our vision, we recognize that gender equality is a crosscutting issue, and as such the prerequisite for sustainable development.


  • To raise public awareness about gender issues, improve women's access to economic resources and provoke positive action towards equal participation of women in decision-making processes at local, regional and national level.
  • To enhance the contribution of women and their non-profit organisations to democratic, sustainable development through cross-sector co-operation and partnership with government on the implementation of National Plan for Action.
  • To increase the impact of East-European women in global consultative and European integration processes through transfer and adaptation of know-how from Western democracies, exchange of ideas and promotion of good practices, and pro-active networking within international and regional EC networks.



In order to be a strategic alliance, WAD:

  • Establishes a national network of NGOs and individuals;
  • Promotes collaboration between civil society organizations, government and political parties;
  • Participates in regional and international networks and coalitions, such as Karat Coalition, Gender Task Force - Bulgaria within the Stability pact for Southeast Europe, and others;
  • Promotes equal participation of women in power and decision-making;
  • Raises awareness about strategies to achieve de facto equal opportunities of women and men in all spheres of life.


In order to be a leading information, consultative and training center, WAD:

  • Collects, analyzes and disseminates information on the gender impact of macro-economic and other policies;
  • Disseminates information through Internet and print media;
  • Elaborates fact sheets and analyses;
  • Maintains and develops its information resources and specialized reference library;
  • Provides consultancy on issues of organizational strengthening of NGO, access to funding, partnership building, and resources of know-how;
  • Provides educational and training programs for NGOs and representatives of political parties and government.


In order to be an advocate for de facto equality, WAD:

  • Lobbies for legislative amendments and positive action by government which remove structural reasons for gender inequality;
  • Provides gender expertise.


In order to be an active participants in the global consultative process, WAD:

  • Observes the implementation of the international human rights treaties, and provides alternative reports and statements;
  • Takes an active part in the capacity building of Karat Coalition as regional women's lobby in the context of EU enlargement.
