WAD Project “Young People – Agents of Community Development” with EU Award

The project of WAD foundation “Young People – Agents of Community Development” has received the Award for best practice of the European Commission.

The project aimed to increase youth citizen activism and participation in small and remote from the capital city towns in Bulgaria – the municipalities of Ihtiman, Kavarna and Silistra. The youth participated together with the local governments in the development or adaptation of municipal youth strategies. At the national youth meeting in Sofia young people presented and shared local level experiences and together with participants from 15 districts in Bulgaria discussed and developed recommendations for the national youth strategy 2010 – 2020, legislation and the national plan for the implementation of ”Europe 2020” strategy. The project activities demonstrated that youth policies are not developed only by organizations and institutions in the capital city but also with the participation of organizations from remote and small towns. The project team produced a manual with good practices of involving young people, a facebook project profile and a project video to promote the established good practices and development ideas.

The project “Young People – Agents of Community Development” was included in the publication of the European commission “Youth Democracy: building a vibrant society”, presenting youth democracy projects aimed at boosting young people’s involvement in the democratic process at local, regional and European level.
